All You Need Is Love

What I Wore

Grocery Shopping

Polka Dot Chambray - Old Navy/Thermal - Old Navy/Jeans - Lucky Brand
Shoes - Ann Taylor/Earrings - Brighton/Watch - MK/Bracelets - Hamsa - gifted & Links - Forever 21/Sunglasses - Oakley

Can I just say...After Christmas Sales!  (actually I'd like to add a couple of more !!)  I went to the mall the day after Christmas...and 80% of the mall was closed due to the winter weather we were having :( :(  So, unfortunately I didn't find a lot of stores to even go into.  But, that didn't stop me from trying again on Saturday!  This time every store was open and waiting for me to find some deals!  One place I went into was Old Navy, and one of the first things I saw was this polka dot chambray!  It was the ONLY one in the entire store  (I think I would have ended up buying it no matter what the size but lucked out that it was a wearable for me Medium) and it was 30% off - score!  Then, I turned and saw this thermal with the hearts and the word "Love" in mint, also 30% off - score 2!  I seriously couldn't wait to get dressed this morning because I knew I was wearing these two new tops.  Have you been hitting the After Christmas Sales?  If so, what fun things have you found?

Hooded Sweater

What I Wore

Sweater - (Thrifted) brand J.J. Basics/Top - Ann Taylor/Jeans - Target
Shoes - KMart

Once in a while, I walk into a store just browsing the racks and come across an item that I know was obviously put there to make my day!  That was what happened when I found this hooded sweater.  I wasn't looking for anything in particular, just had an hour lunchtime to spend out and about.  When I started browsing the sweaters at one of my "go to" thrift stores, I was just about finished with my circuit of the store.  The fur sleeves stuck out from the crowded sweater rack, and I made a hurried walk to see what the rest of that sweater looked like.  I was so happy to see the entire sweater, from the furry cuffs and hood all the way to the big brown buttons!  I have a feeling I will be seen wearing this a few times in the upcoming months!  How about you, what was the last item that was put on a rack specifically to make your day?

Brown Sugar

What I Wore

Hanging at Home

Sweater - (Thrifted) /Jeans - Lucky Brand
Shoes - KMart/Necklace - Rue 21/Watch - MK

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas spent with those you love the most.  I spent the day with my three favorite guys enjoying our time together.  As my kids have gotten older, Christmas day is not as hectic as when they were small.  In fact, the day is almost a time of relaxing.  After all the last minute present buying frenzy I had this year (I think I accomplished more in 2 hours on December 24 than I had in 2 weeks before) I was ready to sit down, put my feet up and "play" with my new presents.  How was your Christmas day spent this year?

Something More

What I Wore

Christmas Shopping

Sweater - Old Navy/Camisole - Old Navy/Vest - Land's End/Cords - Style & Co (Macy's)
Purse - (Thrifted) Vintage Coach/Shoes - KMart/Necklace - Gift

Being able to wear multiple layers is one of the things I enjoy about cooler weather.  I find that putting a camisole under a sweater and topping it all off with a puffy vest (like I did in this outfit) will keep me warm even when the temperature drops.  I am sure I'm not the only one that has found that they have dressed too warmly (or unfortunately not warmly enough) when the weather changes.  By dressing in layers, it is possible to start off prepared for the coldest of days, but by removing one layer not be uncomfortable even inside a warm building.  Do you like dressing in layers a lot too? (Oh, and the Coach purse?  I gotta "brag" about that purchase.  I found it for $3.99 at the thrift store, and even the cashier was in shock that it had been placed with all the cheap purses.)

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

What I Wore

Christmas Shopping

Sweater - Ann Taylor/Vest - (Thrifted)  /Jeans - NY & Co
Boots - KMart/Watch - MK/Bracelets - Forever 21/Earrings - Brighton

Shopping for Christmas presents is something I enjoy.  I like finding those items that will bring a smile to the recipient's face.  Even though online shopping is a great option, I still do a majority of my shopping in the brick and mortar stores.  I like to pick an item up, look it over, pay a real live person for my purchase and then walk out of the store with shopping bags in my hands.  Even though I usually start shopping for Christmas presents as early as August or September, I still find myself out with the crowds at the last moment too.  I cannot pass up the great sales and the hustle and bustle of the season.  The only downfall to being out in a store is that I keep spotting things that "I" want to add to my Christmas list!  Do you prefer online shopping or do you still find yourself shopping at brick and mortar stores for Christmas?

Heaven's Green Fields

What I Wore

For a Day of Remembrance

Sweater - (Thrifted) Lily Pulitzer brand/Jeans - Target/Vest - UnderArmour
Shoes - Target/Watch - MK/Bracelets - Local Boutique

Green & White for Newtown.  Just a small thing, but I wore this sweater as a way to show that no matter how far away I live from a small community dealing with such sadness, I have my thoughts and prayers with them.  I find it interesting that so often wearing a color or colors is a way to show support for cause or event.  We wear Pink in October, Yellow for Soldiers, Red for AIDS or in February for Heart Health.  We also wear specific colors to support our favorite sports team and even decorate our homes in colors based on the holiday or season.  I like that by wearing a specific color I can demonstrate my support in a very quiet, but very public way.  Do you like to wear specific colors either in support of a cause or maybe for your favorite football team?

Grey Day

What I Wore

Cardigan - (Thrifted) /Turtleneck -Old Navy /Jeans - Gap
Necklace - Target/Shoes - (Thrifted) Blue Asphalt Brand

The past couple of days have been so overwhelming with sadness from the events that happened in Connecticut that I have not been wanting to put up a blog post.  I do not want to be insensitive to the devastating losses by a frivolous chat about what I wore, but I also want to find some normalcy in a world that is changed by a horrible event.  I actually had worn this outfit a few days ago, but it fits with my mood today - a cozy sweater to wrap up in with a warm top underneath and some comfortable jeans.  I like how clothing articles can really make a day feel brighter and happier (like wearing sequins just makes me smile) or just make a sad time feel a little bit more peaceful.  I hope your day is one that is full of love and with the people who make you happy.

Blame it on Mexico

What I Wore

For a Mexican Fiesta

Blouse - NY & Co/Camisole - (Thrifted) Eyeshadow brand /Jeans - NY & Co
Boots - KMart/Watch - MK

I grew up in a small Midwestern town and I typically ate what would be considered plain "meat and potato" type of meals.  If it wasn't grown in our (or my grandparents) backyard garden or on one of our fruit trees or bushes, I probably didn't try a vegetable or fruit (other than oranges around Christmas).  I remember the first time I ate what would be considered "fast food" tacos - my oldest brother drove us 30 miles on a 2 lane country road to a "city".  So, you might think that as an adult I would still prefer the same type of food.  While I won't turn down a piece of pot roast with potatoes and carrots, if I can have some guacamole on top of my hamburger, I am a happy girl.  What type of eater are you?  Do you enjoy trying new things or do you tend to stick with things you know and love?

Have you ever put on an article of clothing that you hadn't put on in for awhile and thought I need to wear this more!?  That was the way I felt when I pulled these jeans on.  They are  so comfortable and fit so nicely, they just made me happy.  The funny thing is, if I hadn't been planning on spending the day at home wrapping presents while watching the Dallas Cowboys beat the Cincinnati Bengals (Yeah, Cowboys!), I wouldn't have pulled these jeans out of the drawer.  I felt so good in these jeans and the pinspired top combination that I even was able to deal with the hairtastrophe for photos and a dinner out to celebrate the win with my guys (who had been at the game).  Even though these jeans were made as just one more in a line of jeans, they felt tailored for me.  Is there a time that what you were wearing made you feel so good that you just felt it was made specifically for you?

One Tribe

What I Wore

Out With Hubby

 Sweater (Thrifted) Loca/Loca Brand/Blouse - Target/Jeans - Gap
Shoes - Target/Watch - MK/Earrings - Local Boutique

This sweater is one of those items that  keeps me going to resale stores. When I saw it, I decided that $5 was not a bad price for one my favorite "go to" items - the cardigan.  The fact that this sweater has a tribal feel made it an even better deal to me.  One of the nice things about living and working in a larger city is that there are so many choices of resale shops.  We have regular Goodwills, we have "Boutique" Goodwills and we have upscale consignment shops.  One of my favorite things to do with a friend is a day of resale shop hopping.  We will go to as many of the different stores  as we can fit into one day.  It is such a fun day of shopping, comparing bargains, talking and laughing.  Have you ever gone thrifting with a friend?

Deck the Halls

What I Wore

To Trim The Tree

Reindeer Tshirt - Target/White Layering Tee - Rue 21/Jeans - Target
Earrings - Local Boutique/Ring - Forever 21/Watch - MK

Decorating for Christmas is one of those days I look forward to almost as much as any other.  Finally, it is okay to play my favorite Christmas music because now, it really is the season! I love pulling out the decorations that I haven't seen for a year and remembering when those items were originally added to our home.  Each year I do like to add a few items to our decor, and I love when I find a new piece that becomes a favorite.   However, for me, the best part of decorating for Christmas is that it is a time for our whole family to work together turning our home into Wonderland.   For all of the decorating, I do want to be dressed comfortably, but just have to add a little sparkle for the occasion.  Oh, and there are no shots of my shoes for the day mainly because I didn't have any on (and I'm definitely past due for a pedicure!).  How do you view decorating for the holidays, is it something you look forward to, or is it something you look forward to being done?

Not Meant To Be

What I Wore

For a trip to the hair salon

Hoodie - Gap/Tshirt - Rue 21/Jeans - Forever 21/Shoes - Toms

Inspired by

If you read my post last week about the trip to the hair salon that was a week too early, you know that this week was when I really was supposed to get my hair done.  Well, as you can see, my hair is different, so I did get that taken care of.  However, there is a reason for this post title...my favorite hairstylist had a death in her family and was unavailable.  I took the offer of getting my hair done by someone else at the shop - it was either that or wait until my next appointment on January 14 for a haircut (Yes, I plan out my hair appointments 5 months in advance because it is that difficult to get in with my stylist).  Well, thankfully I do have a couple of outfit posts from prior to this disaster of a haircut that I can add, otherwise you would not see any new posts that include my face for awhile.  I chose not to crop my photo for this post, just to prove how even a horrible hair day can be a blogging subject. (Oh, and I forgot to put the jewelry I was wearing back on after I rewashed and styled my hair when I got home - I did have some on when I left home.)

Orange Crush

What I Wore

To Orange Leaf for Fro-Yo

Sweater - Express/Tshirt - Rue 21/Jeans - Gap/Vest -STO (Thrifted)
Shoes - KMart/Watch- MK/Necklace & Earrings - Premier Designs

Now, before you think I planned this outfit specifically to wear to Orange Leaf, let me tell you that it was a coincidence.  Although, I have to laugh, because the idea of planning my wardrobe based on the name of the place I'm going could get interesting.  I could wear green and go eat pasta at Olive Garden, or wear red to have a endless fries at Red Robin or seafood at Red Lobster, or maybe try a slider at White Castle wearing white, of course.  I wore the orange vest simply because I knew I needed some color to add to my favorite combination of black and white.  How about you, do you wear a lot of bright color, or do you like to add just a pop of color?

Blue Stripes

What I Wore

Grocery Shopping

Hoodie- Gap/Top - Target/Jeans - Lucky
Purse - Kathy Von Zeeland/Watch MK/Necklace - Premier Designs/Shoes - Rue 21

Buying groceries is one of those chores that we all have to do.  I am one of those people that goes once a week to get our food and incidentals.  I know that some people shop once a month, others who will tend to make a daily stop. However often you shop, the items you buy affects not only how your body looks, but how your body feels.  For me, this time of the year makes it tough to eat as healthy as I do in the warmer summer months.  So many holiday traditions involve food - that big Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas cookie baking, Christmas parties, etc. - and when you add the colder temperatures that bring layers of clothing to hide an extra pound or two, I usually find myself indulging in treats that I would pass up in the summer.  Do you give yourself the freedom to indulge a little bit more at this time of the year, or do you have the willpower to keep the same eating habits all year?
