Recently, and with more frequency, I seem to be getting comments from the dreaded Anonymous. I don't think that I am alone (at least I hope it isn't just me that is attracting these comments) because I have subscribed to different bloggers and a thread here or there that I was interested in following responses to, and have ended up with Anonymous responses then too. Comments such as ----
'Thank you for the good writeup. It in fact was a amusement account it. Look advanced to more added agreeable from you!'
seem to pop up on my blog lately. Which means I have to take the time to delete the comment, or leave it and hope none of my readers click on a link that this poster may have left behind. I took the "captcha" option off my blog when a fellow blogger asked me to, since she didn't like to comment on blogs with it on. Now, I am debating - keep the captcha off and keep deleting these Anonymous comments, or turn captcha back on and risk losing genuine comments? As a blogger or blog reader, what do you prefer? Does the captcha make you less likely to post a comment? Am I just the only blogger getting these annoying comments? I'm fairly new to the blogging world, and wonder, what do you do if you get Anonymous (and not pertaining to your post) comments?
camo and sequins - absolutely brilliant!! I love it!
ReplyDeleteYou are not alone...the dreaded anonymous pretty much makes us all miserable!! I am moderating my comments, because I do not want to put the blurring numbers back up. I wish there was an answer which really worked. But, what does work, is this outfit...the sequins and camo jacket look great together!
ReplyDeleteFirst, this is a very fab outfit, Sara - great mix of feminine and tough! Second, I can only say "been there!" with the anon. comments. I delete them and DISCUS lets me "blacklist" the sender, but I still get some. Please, please, don't go back to Captchas - they are so hard to read for us, ahem, over-40 women : >
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for linking up!!
It seems that the dreaded Anonymous has been spreading seeds of discontent everywhere! I have been blogging now for about 9 months and I just started getting them about a month ago.
ReplyDeleteI delete them instantly; it only takes a second. I don't use the captcha because it does frustrate real commenters and discourages them. It actually takes me about two or three tries to get it right!
This color of pink looks so pretty on you. Your pink lipstick is also very pretty.
My blog is new & I am getting that too. Leave out the captcha if you can....they drive me insane as I always get it wrong. btw....love the studs on your camo & with the pink it looks fabulous!

Sequins and camo ... exciting, would love to try that! I saw you at the hop social and I am your newest follower in GFC from http://inhighheelsanddogtags.blogspot.jp/. I look forward to seeing you over at my blog next :)
ReplyDeleteI get these too, and it is frustrating. I delete them as soon as I get the email, I don't like the captcha either. I've heard if you don't allow anonymous posters that will help. I haven't done it because I have some friends that aren't bloggers but will post on my blog...I don't want to discourage them.
ReplyDeleteLove your outfit!
Debbie :)
You look adorable as always, Sara.
ReplyDeleteI get several a week and find them very annoying. I do receive my comments by e.mail, so it makes it easy to delete right from there. I don't have to go back into blogger.
I really dislike the captcha ... often takes me two or three times to actually be able to read it correctly.
I keep anonymous available, as I get some real comments that way.
I am so glad you are blogging.
Fondly,
Glenda
I hate captcha - probably because I need about 3 pairs of glasses to see 2 distances (go figure) and it seems a peeping tom took the photos. So, love that it's easy to comment. I feel your pain, but spamming is with us. Would I not comment because of captcha? Only if I try 3 times and still can't read it!
ReplyDeleteLove your outfit, more importantly! I tried on a cute camo jacket the other day (too small) and this makes me want to get it anyway :)
Most of those comments go through to my spam folder. Unfortunately I can't tell you why but as you can imagine I am very pleased about it.
ReplyDeleteHi! Found your blog through Monday Mingle. I use Wordpress so I have a plug-in that catches these as spam. Blogger may have some sort of widget to use that can catch these so you can delete them. I do hate typing the letters and numbers in. I got rid of mind long ago. I will still comment, though. I try to comment on every blog I visit because I know how important comments are to me. Debbie @ ilovemylemonadelife.com
ReplyDeletePut on Captcha, sad to say. Please let me know if you find a way around it, on Blogger. I hated to do it, but like you, I took it off in response to someone who didn't like it, and the result was a box full of spam. I don't worry so much about dealing with just the Anonymous notes as I do about what might come in from their server. The choice seems to be protect yourself or make life easy for the rest of us. Difficult choice, I know.
ReplyDeleteVery cute outfit ... love to hear from you as well.
I had a lot of spam, and captcha is saving my time and nerves! If somebody really wants to leave a comment, couple seconds on the code is not a problem!!About the outfit-love how you combined sparkly top with camo!!! By the way, I'm hosting a link up party and would be thrilled if you decided to participate!

My spam catches mine for which I am very grateful... I believe that if someone really wants to leave a comment they should understand your need to manage your time and leave their comment... Maybe just add an apology and reason this is necessary... If people see that you know it is an inconvenience, but a necessary one, that may calm anyone who finds it frustrating... just my two cents...
ReplyDeleteI love that sequins shirt & your boots! You look so cute, but you always do. I hope your having a great Monday.

Given that I love anything military and anything that sparkles, this look get two thumbs up from me!
ReplyDeleteIt looks as though you are getting many spam comments. Just make sure you don't click on any of those links!
ReplyDeleteI don't use Blogger; I use Word Press and I have an awesome SPAM filter that nabs those comments pronto. Check to see if Blogger has a plug in of some sort to nab those pesky spam comments.
In regards to the CAPTCHA...I hate them! I call them GOTCHYAs! Most of the time they are difficult to read and it becomes a hassle to leave a comment.
Good luck!!

More Modern Modesty
Ugh...I know those are so annoying. I took the Captcha off of mine because I know that people get frustrated with it at times so I moderate everything. It's a little more time consuming:-/
ReplyDeleteOn another note...great outfit. Love the pop of pink sparkles. Very cute!
Well, aren't you a lady who knows how to dress up well. Regarding your concern about spammers, there are a lot of people who wants to comment but are annoyed with the CAPTCHA. So that will depend on your decision. With my blog, I do not offer spammers the chance to spam me, although, they can still be quite tricky sometimes.. lol
ReplyDeleteI don't have captcha turned on, but I do have comment moderation turned ON for anyone leaving a comment on any post that is older than 5 days. All spam coming to me is on older posts so Blogger sweeps them all into the spam area where they are easy to delete. I do allow "anonymous" to post, but since all the spammers are going into posts weeks and months old, none of the spam actually gets onto my blog.
ReplyDeleteThat jacket is too cute! Our spam filter catches most of those comments thankfully, but just in case we moderate to make sure we get all the truly spam(ish) comments!
