Just a Game

What I Wore

For a Halloween Costume

Jacket - Rue 21/T-shirt - Rue 21/Cargo Pants - Kohls

This posting is a bit unusual, in that I am wearing clothes from my closet, but I am dressing up as someone else. I don't know the last time I wore a costume for Halloween, but since we were encouraged to wear a costume for work because we were expecting trick-or-treaters, I decided to go for it. When I saw a few outfit pins inspired from Katniss Everdeen of The Hunger Games (as portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence), I thought this could not only be a comfortable costume, but one that would be easy to put together from items in my closet. Now, short blondish hair is not even close to giving the impression of Katniss, but, luckily, a coworker had the perfect wig (the coworker is the Love Goddess in the photo above). Never having worn a wig before, it was fun to see how easily I was transformed into a totally different person simply by putting on a dark wig. Now, however, I'm wondering...should I tell the hairdresser to make me a full out brunette?! Did you (or are you) dress up this year for Halloween?

Back in Black

What I Wore

For a Rainy Day

Shirt - JCrew/Sweater - Express/Jeans - Kohl's
Shoes - Rue21/Necklace - Forever 21/Watch - MK

Today the Fall weather finally arrived.  Not only have the temperatures dropped significantly, but the rain has arrived.  When dressing for a day like today, I want to be warm, but add a little bit of sparkle into the gloom.  So, today, I pulled out a pink belt, a sweater with buttons that match a shiny necklace, and a bright lipcolor.  When you are dressing for a gray day, do you adjust what you wear too?

Boots - KMart/Socks - KMart/Bracelet - Target/Watch - MK/Purse - Thrifted

I have mentioned how I like to use Pinterest for helping me to plan a shopping list, so I had to participate when I discovered there was a new weekly link-up called
 Pinspired Style hosted by

This week is my first week participating (but their third week hosting) and I am looking forward to putting my Pinterest "Style I Like" Board to use!  For my first week I tweeked the original pin a bit.  My outfit is blue jeans instead of black, my shirt is purple instead of red, but it is "my" interpretation of what I saw, and ultimately, that is what I think when style works best for anyone.  Taking what you see and putting your own personal touch to make it your outfit and not just a copy.

One Mint Julep

What I Wore

Hi, my name is Sara, and I am a blog reader.  Since I was a little girl, I have always loved reading.  I admit that now, it seems, I spend a lot of time reading blogs instead of books.  I like being able to keep up with a variety of blogs, and am always finding a new blog from a link.  In all of my blog reading, I came to find Jules, at bles-id.  She blogged about putting together an outfit (total cost including jewelry was under $20!), and mentioned that if anyone wanted to send her a photo of their attempt at a thrifted outfit, she would include it in a blog post.  Well, I love a challenge and finding a great deal, so I told her I was in!  This outfit is the result of that challenge.  As soon as I saw these mint jeans at Plato's Closet, I knew what I was going to wear.  I did spend a tiny bit more than Jules, but, I was pretty pleased with my total cost - and with what I found in general!  Do you read a lot of blogs?  If you aren't already reading bles-id take a minute and visit Jules, she is a real sweetheart!

Grey Street

What I Wore

For My First Visit to Jack-In-The-Box

Shirt - Forever 21/Sweater - SouthPole (Thrifted)/Jeans - Bullhead (Thrifted)
Shoes - KMart/Chevron Ring - Target

I typically prefer to eat at a local establishment  and not a chain when I go out to eat.  If we visit a new city for a day or a week, I will research to see where we should go, or I will ask a local for a recommendation (I usually get a good suggestion by asking a book store employee!).  One of my other favorite ways to find a place is Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, and I can always count on Guy to lead me to some place that I might have overlooked otherwise.  Fortunately, the Cincinnati area has a good selection of places to eat, so we are never at a loss when we want to go out for a meal.  Now, after saying all of that... Today, I'm trying a chain restaurant that I have never tried before - Jack-in-the-Box.  Just recently one opened locally (from my understanding it is the only one in the entire state), and a co-worker, originally from California, is in disbelief that I haven't even gone yet.  So, I am heading there for lunch today - she said I HAVE to have the curly fries.  Do you prefer to eat at a local place or do you like the safety of the chain restaurants that you know when you are some place new?

Dream On

What I Wore

To Go See "ARGO"

Blazer - Target/Sweater - Land's End/Jeans - Lucky
Bag - Target/Scarf - Thrifted/Sunglasses - Oakley/Boots - Kohl's
Watch - MK/ Belt - Target/Earrings - Local Shop

So far, I haven't mentioned what a movie fan I am, but movies are one of my passions!  I am always excited for this time of year since all of the movie studios begin to release the films they expect to get Oscar nominations.  Each year I try to see as many of the nominees as possible in the theatre (including every nominee like best song, best adapted screenplay, best documentary, etc.), and each year I treat Oscar Sunday as a holiday, watching coverage from the Red Carpet until the Best Picture is announced.  Do you enjoy going to the theatre to watch movies, or do you prefer to wait until the movie is available to watch at home?

Für Elise

What I Wore

To Take My College Son Out For a Meal

Top - NY & CO/Faux Fur Vest - Forever 21/Jeans - Kohl's
Earrings - NY & CO/Bracelet - Target/Watch - MK/Sunglassses - Oakley/Boots - Old/Purse - Thrifted

When I saw this faux fur vest hanging in Forever 21, I was beyond happy!  It was the only one hanging there, and I couldn't believe my luck.  I had been pinning faux fur vest styles on Pinterest for quite a while, and had been keeping my eyes open for one to purchase.  I have used Pinterest for recipes, decorating ideas, and laughs, but my favorite use has been for clothes shopping suggestions!  I will look at my boards (I even have one for shoes, one for boots, one for dresses, etc.) to see what I have pinned multiple times or ways, and will realize that I need to add that item to my closet.  Do you use Pinterest like this too?

Voices Green and Purple

What I Wore

Day of "Getting Things Done"

Sweater - Forever 21/Cords - Delia's/Camisole - Bozzolo via TJ Maxx
Watch - MK/Bracelets - Forever 21/Belt - Target/Necklace - gift/Shoes - Land's End/Purse - Daisy Fuentes

Mondays are not everyone's favorite day if they work a typical work week.  I don't always work a typical work week though, so occasionally I am very happy to see Monday come.  Today is one of those Mondays!  All of the things that need to be done this Monday means I need to be comfortable but prepared for anything, and that is exactly how this combination of cords and sweater makes me feel today.  Do you work a typical Monday - Friday work week, or do you have an unusual schedule like me?

Who Wears These Shoes

What I Wore

Football Sunday

Blazer - Old Navy/Top - Under Armour/Jeans - NY & CO
Scarf - Thrifted/Wedges - Target

The other day I was in Target and saw these teal wedges on clearance for $14.98.  I couldn't believe my luck in finding them at that price, and was even more pleased when I saw they actually had them in my size!  I love finding a bargain, and especially when it is one that I know I'll use a lot (I'm already planning outfits around these little lovelies!).  What is the most recent bargain you have found that you can't wait to use?

Skin & Bones

What I Wore

To a College Football Game

Top - Boden/Jeans - New York & CO
Wristlet - Coach/Scarf - Thrifted

Nothing better than having the chance to go watch a college football game on a beautiful fall afternoon, than going to watch a college football game with your son in uniform.  A big rivalry game with conference championship on the line makes that game even more fun.  Dressing in the fall to sit outside is taking a chance at being too hot, being too cold or, if you are really lucky, getting it exactly right.  Today was one of those getting it right days!  I started with a long-sleeved t-shirt (unseen) and a pair of tights (also unseen), and this ended up being perfect for a day where the high hit 59 degrees.  How do you dress for an autumn day when you are going to be outside most of the day?

Am I Blue?

What I Wore

To Hairdresser

Blazer - Talbots/Sweater - Talbots/Jeans - Forever 21
Shoes - Target/Purse - JCPenney/Watch - MK/Necklace & Ring - Local Boutique

Finding a hairdresser that you can rely on for great results time after time is no easy task.  The only good way I have been able to find someone has been by a recommendation from someone else.  When you find that special stylist, you will gladly rearrange your day to make sure you don't miss an appointment.  How did you find your stylist?

Baseball Dreams

What I Wore

To watch my son play in a college baseball game

Chambray - Target/T-shirt - WalMart/Black Jeans - Kohls/
Shoes - KMart/Watch - MK/Earrings - Local Boutique

I am not the most glam baseball mom ever (although I guess Victoria Beckham is the most glam soccer mom ever), but I want to look a little stylish while sitting in the stands.  Because I wanted to try the chambray trend for fall, it seemed a great day to pull out my new top.  A beautiful fall day is a great day to watch some baseball, but for me, any day my son is playing baseball is a great day to watch baseball.  What sport do you enjoy watching the most?
