Fake It

I have mentioned that I don't do any kind of editing to my blog photos.  When a friend from college sent me a photo shopped version of a picture that I had used on Facebook, I was shocked at what can be done with a little editing.  My friend admitted that she did actually photo shop the pictures she had put on Facebook! Seeing myself with blonder hair, thinner, younger...well, what's not to like?  Admittedly, when I am choosing a photo to use, I try to pick one that I think is more flattering than another.  But, when I looked at the photos side by side, I decided that I like the real me better than the photo shopped me.  If I post a photo on Facebook or on a blog post, it is not an edited version of me, it is the real me.  So, if you happen to see me in person, you will recognize me and not be shocked at how old I am and how much I weigh!

  1. I love this post! I work with Middle Schoolers so the girls especially are always looking at photos in magazines and online thinking that everyone really looks exactly like that and that is the expectations. I love that you are real! So happy I found your blog.

  3. Ok, that is crazy what editing can do. I'm sure every model in every mag has this done unfortunately.

  4. That just amazes me, but it does happen all the time. It is so sad that these young ladies are striving to be this perfect lie!

  5. It is difficult to believe what you see in magazines these days for this very reason. Fun to play with, but when it is presented as truth, that's a problem!! I teach journalism and we often talk about photo manipulation in class. I think your real self is pretty awesome!!

  6. Hopping over from Alison's "I feel pretty" series today!

We know why all celebrities of our age are slimmer and blonder, have no wrinkles and no cellulites just by drinking lots of water and enough sleep ;-)

You are right, we select the more flattering photos for FB&Co but I never photoshop my photos.
I follow blogs especially of women of my age group and love to see real women!

  8. Ew. There's covering a zit and perhaps adding an over-all color enhance, but she messed with your eyebrows and made your rack bigger and a little strange. As with all techno-tools, they can be used for good or evil!
The camera can lie, especially with lens distortion, and adjustments there can also be valuable, but taste and skill are important.
Interesting post, Sara ... good choice!
